Sparking Zero Summer 2026 DLC Guide: Every New Character & Mode
*Sparking Zero* dropped its biggest content update yet this summer, and if you've been on the fence about coming back, this DLC is the strongest argument for it. Six new playable characters, two new modes, and a full rebalance pass make Summer 2026 the best time to jump back in (or get started).
Here's a complete breakdown of everything that came in this drop.
## The Six New Characters
**1. Black Frieza.** Easily the most-requested addition. His Death Beam variants are absurdly fast, and his ultimate move (the Frieza Death Force) hits like a truck. Already showing up in tournament play.
**2. Gohan Beast.** The version that murdered the Cell Max in *Super Hero* finally has a proper roster spot. Beast Combo is one of the best new combo strings in the game.
**3. Ultra Ego Vegeta.** Distinct from Vegeta's other forms, with a damage-absorption mechanic baked into his ki gauge. Tank/aggressor hybrid.
**4. Orange Piccolo.** Another *Super Hero* addition. Strong reach, good zoning, and his Special Beam Cannon variants are genuinely scary.
**5. Daima Goku (small form).** Small hitbox, fast movement, weaker damage. Surprisingly fun for movement-focused players.
**6. Glorio.** Yes, Glorio. The newer Super manga character. Niche but a roster surprise nobody saw coming.
## New Modes
**Tournament Mode (Reworked).** The old World Tournament structure has been overhauled. You now get bracket draws, custom rule sets, and persistent stats. Online ranked tournaments are the standout - you queue, get bracketed against 7 other players in your skill tier, and play out a full bracket in one session. Way better than ladder grinding.
**Story Pivots.** A new "What-If" branch system. Pick a divergence point in the story and play out an alternate path. Five branches launched with the DLC, more coming. The Vegeta Survives Frieza branch is genuinely good.
## The Rebalance Pass
This is where the DLC quietly does the most work. Bandai Namco rebalanced over 40 characters. Highlights:
- **Goku (UI -Sign-)** - Slight nerf to dodge frames. Still strong but no longer auto-pilot in close range.
- **Vegeta (Final Flash)** - Wind-up reduced. Now actually viable in matches.
- **Cell (Perfect)** - Solar Flare cooldown reduced. Cell mains rejoice.
- **Frieza (1st-100%)** - Death Saucer tracking improved. Buffs lower-tier Frieza forms.
- **Trunks (Future)** - Sword combos do more guard damage. Strong choice in lower-rank ladder.
The big losers: Goku Black Rosé (movement nerf, sword startup slower) and Broly DBS (super damage reduced from peak). Both still very playable, just no longer dominant.
## What's Worth Buying
If you're a casual player and don't care about the new modes:
- **Black Frieza alone** is worth the entry-level DLC tier. He's that fun.
- **Gohan Beast** is the second-best buy. Easy combos, strong damage.
- The other four are character-mainer territory - buy if you specifically want them.
If you want the full DLC:
- The bundle is worth it for the price *if* you play online or care about Tournament mode.
- The What-If branches are genuinely engaging and add 8-10 hours of single-player content.
## Online Performance
Netcode has been substantially improved. Cross-platform play between PS5, Xbox Series, and PC is now stable. Lag spikes are still possible on poor connections but the rollback delay window has been tightened.
For tournament players: Bandai Namco confirmed *Sparking Zero* will be at EVO 2026. The DLC is required to qualify.
## The Verdict
The Summer 2026 DLC is the kind of update *Sparking Zero* needed. The launch content was strong but the roster felt thin compared to *Tenkaichi 3*. After this drop, the gap is smaller. Combined with the rebalance and the new modes, the game finally feels complete.
**Recommended:** anyone who bought the base game and bounced off after a few weeks. Come back for this DLC. The game is better now than at launch.
**Skip if:** you don't play online or single-player story content. The roster expansion alone isn't enough to justify it for purely versus-CPU players.
We'll have a full tier list breakdown for the new roster in our next post. For now, expect Black Frieza, Gohan Beast, and Ultra Ego Vegeta to dominate online ranked through the end of 2026.
