Preparing for Super: Beerus - 5 Things to Rewatch Before Fall
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus drops in Fall 2026, and if you have been away from the franchise for a while, there is some homework worth doing before the premiere. Five things to rewatch, in priority order, to get the most out of the new arc.
This is not "rewatch everything." This is the minimum-viable refresh for fans who want to understand what is happening when Beerus arc episode 1 hits.
## 1. Battle of Gods (the 2013 film)
Why: Beerus is the entire reason this arc exists. Battle of Gods is his introduction, and it remains the best Beerus content in the franchise. His personality, his rules, his relationship with Whis, the limits of his attention span, the food obsession. None of this is in the manga in equivalent depth.
The new arc starts with Beerus already established as part of the cast, but if you have not seen Battle of Gods recently, his behavior and dialogue choices will land differently.
Time required: about 90 minutes for the film. Available on Crunchyroll.
## 2. Resurrection F (the 2015 film) and the Frieza Saga arc of Dragon Ball Super
Why: Frieza has been confirmed as a major figure in the Beerus arc. His relationship with Beerus, his motivations post-resurrection, and the Golden Frieza form are all important context.
Resurrection F is the cleanest version of Frieza's modern character. The Super adaptation of the same events is fine but slower. The film is the right rewatch.
While you are at it, the Universe 6 Saga (Super episodes 28 to 41) introduces Champa and Vados, who matter for any Beerus-centric story.
Time required: 90 minutes for the film, plus optionally 5 hours for the Universe 6 Saga.
## 3. The Tournament of Power Conclusion (Super episodes 124 to 131)
Why: Goku achieved Mastered Ultra Instinct against Jiren in the final episodes of Tournament of Power. This is the form Goku will be operating in for most of the Beerus arc, and the fight against Jiren shows its mechanics, limits, and stamina costs.
You do not need to rewatch the entire Tournament of Power. Just the final 8 episodes. The buildup is great but the payoff is what matters for the new arc.
Time required: about 3 hours.
## 4. Super Hero (the 2022 film)
Why: Gohan Beast and Orange Piccolo are introduced here. If either character appears in the Beerus arc (and promotional material strongly suggests Gohan will), you want this fresh in your head. Plus the animation style of Super Hero appears to be the visual reference Toei is using for the new arc.
Super Hero also re-establishes Piccolo as a top-tier mortal fighter, which has implications for the cast hierarchy going into Beerus.
Time required: about 100 minutes. Available on Crunchyroll.
## 5. The Granolah Saga (manga only)
Why: Black Frieza was revealed at the end of the Granolah arc, and that reveal is essentially the cliffhanger that the Beerus arc will pay off. The manga is the only place this story currently exists in animated or printed form.
If you do not normally read the manga, this is the time to start. The Granolah Saga is roughly chapters 67 through 87. About 5 hours of reading.
If reading is not your thing, find a recap video. The "Granolah Saga in 30 minutes" videos on YouTube are mostly accurate.
Time required: 5 hours of reading or 30 minutes of recap watching.
## Optional: Dragon Ball Daima Highlights
Daima introduced the Demon Realm, the Glind character, and a broader god hierarchy that Beerus may reference. You do not need to rewatch all 20 episodes, but the Demon Realm reveal episodes (around episodes 12 to 16) are worth scanning if you want to be ready for any cross-references.
Time required: about 2 hours if you skim.
## What You Can Skip
- **Original Dragon Ball.** Almost certainly not relevant to Beerus arc.
- **Dragon Ball GT.** Non-canon, definitely not relevant.
- **The Buu Saga.** Already old context. Beerus mentioned Majin Buu in Battle of Gods, but you do not need a rewatch.
- **The Frieza Saga (original DBZ).** The Frieza of Beerus arc is post-Resurrection F and post-Black Frieza. The original DBZ Frieza is a different character at this point.
## Total Time Investment
If you do everything on this list (films plus Tournament of Power final episodes plus Granolah recap), you are looking at about 10 hours of content.
That is a reasonable weekend. Way less than rewatching the entire franchise. And it gets you exactly the context you need for the Beerus arc to land.
## Streaming Availability
- **Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, Super Hero**: Crunchyroll
- **Tournament of Power**: Crunchyroll, Hulu, also on Funimation while it still exists
- **Granolah Saga**: Manga Plus (free, official Shueisha) or Viz Media
For the recap videos, search YouTube for the saga name plus "recap" and pick the highest-rated one. Quality varies.
## When to Start Your Rewatch
The Beerus arc premieres in October 2026. Plan to start your rewatch in mid-September. That gives you about three weeks to work through the list at a comfortable pace, with the freshest material right before the premiere.
If you are reading this in May or June, you have plenty of time. Do not rush.
## The Bottom Line
You do not need to be a Dragon Ball expert to enjoy the Beerus arc. But the arc will reward fans who come in with Beerus's personality, Frieza's current motivations, and Goku's Mastered UI fresh in their heads.
Five hours of films, plus the manga catch-up if you want full context. That is your rewatch list. The new arc deserves the homework.
